ive been having some issues with braking in my f150. when i first go to depress the pedal the brakes seem to barely work but once i let off and hit the pedal again then it brakes really good and will even lock up. ive noticed when doing wheel bearings that my driver side rotor was way thinner than my passenger side rotor. i replaced the brake pads but it didnt do much to help. any advice would help. thanks guys.
sounds like your caliper on the drivers side may be seized or sticking. also take a look at the brake line on that side to make sure that it isn't pinched or kinked.
Check your rear brake shoe adjustment. If they are too loose, it will cause the brake pedal to be very low the first time that you depress it but will pump up the second or third pump. Very easy to check. Little rubber adjuster plug on the bottom of the brake backing plate. Self adjuster should only allow you to turn the star-wheel in the direction to tighten them. Be careful to not over tighten them! I adjust them with the wheels off of the ground so that I can spin the wheel while adjusting. You can hear the brake shoe drag against the drum slightly.
