All valves appear fine and aren't stuck. It took a while but oil is now circulating at the rockers. Al good things. But man do I have one horrible driver side knock. That's the same side I have low compression too. Thoughts on this?
Knocks are never good. What is the oil pressure? If oil pressure is good, the noise may be related to the low compression in one hole.
Might try removing plug wires one at a time to isolate the knock.
I ran the truck for ten minutes last night and let it sit. I was hoping that the solvents in the new oil and the Marvel would work some goo loose. I rechecked the compression today. It came way up!

I'll be checking oil pressure later this afternoon. My bro in law is coming by. He's a Subaru mechanic. He's got all kinds of fun tools to play with!
Numbers certainly are coming up. The knock has me worried though. This won't help with the knocking but an old timers trick to clean up the carbon deposits and junk in the motor is to get a spray bottle with water and spray it into the motor while its running. I've done this once and was expecting white smoke to come out the exhaust but it was all black smoke (carbon burning) before it finally started smoking white and then I called it good.

The knock has me concerned too. But I won't know more until I dig into those two front cylinders a little. I'll have the truck running after work today. If I'll hear the knock I'll take the plug wire off each cylinder to see if I can figure out if it's an ignition knock or mechanical.
So you're saying to spray water into the intake manifold while it's running?! That sound so wrong on so many levels. lol
Haha I know how it sounds. You have to remember some old airplanes use water / methanol injection for a hp increase and turbo guys use it to keep temps down to run more boost without detonation.
So we adjusted the valve lash which sure helped the engine run smoother. But sadly the knock is still very prevalent and seems mechanical. We're going to look into the cylinder with a scope and see what we can find. I have a feeling we're going to pull the engine and do a rebuild. Might be less of a headache to just buy a used engine and be done with it. So depressing.
I also replaced the pan gasket after getting a look into the lower engine. After putting it back together I have oil pouring out from either under the flywheel dust cover (main seal?) or maybe it's those touchy studs and nuts on the back of the pan. I hear a little grinding towards the rear when manually turning the drive pulley so I'd put my money on the rear pilot bearings. Never a dull moment!
Sorry to hear it. When you had the pan off did you check each rod? You can feel the slop in the one thats knocking. Also pulling each plug the one with the knock will get quieter. Also remember that there are a lot of things that sound like a rod knock (timing chain slapping cover) but 9 times out of 10 its a rod.
Hi Clint. No I didn't check the rods when I had the pan off. Doh. What's that they say about hindsight?!
I'm sure it's not the last time the pan will come off. Anywho - I'm trying to get my hands on an oil pressure tester gauge so I can see where we're at. I'm thinking about all the things I should've done and in what order. Live and learn I guess.
I'm befuddled however why the knock wasn't really prevalent when I first started the truck Saturday (refer to earlier YouTube video)...it was noisy and had some unhealthy noises but this knock has just grown substantially. Perhaps there was enough crud in the bearings to stiffen it up and the new fluids have since changed that.
I should probably start a new thread but this one seems to show the history of the engine so I may as well keep it going. Below is a video of the knock. It's certainly clear. Anyone with an experienced ear can probably say what it is right away. Any takers?
I should also note that I've got oil pouring out from the flywheel dust shield. And after just 20 seconds of running the engine the oil light came on so I'm losing pressure somewhere. I killed the engine and won't run it again until I get these things resolved.
I'm going to say that with the evidence of an oil leak in the rear main area that the mains are wiped out! Its a LOAD knock which is typical of bad main bearings.
I agree with both of you. I'm dropping the pan today (again) to do a deeper inspection on everything I can see. I'll repost a video when repairs are made and the truck is purring as it's supposed to be! Thanks fellas!
