air intake issue

I have an 83 bronco with an inline 6 and I'm having an issue I cannot figure out because I've never seen it before. Try to explain it the best I can. Instead of it intaking air through the carb its bypassing the carb and intaking through a vacuum hose that goes from under the carb to the pcv valve. So its sucking no air through the carb and making it so I have to disconect the vacuum line off the pcv and leave it hanging wide open in order for the truck to run cuz that's where its sucking all the air from not the carb. I don't know what's wrong with it. I think it might need a new carb but I dont understand why it sucks no air through the carb

Welcome to the forum, zloomis!

I am not trying to be funny... how have you come to the conclusion that no air is passing through the carburetor?

If a carburetor is very rich [mixture], then having a vacuum leak [disconnected PCV valve] could cause the engine to run better.

Is the choke working properly? If closed, it would cause the mixture to be too rich for the engine to run well.

Do you have the stock air cleaner assembly? Are all the vacuum lines and hoses connected?

Give us more information, please.

Yes there is no air passing through the carb its all getting sucked through a vacuum line under the carb witch happens to run to the pcv valve and was running off the air that was in the motor and was chocking it out cuz there wasnt enough flow. I just got the truck and it had all the equipment and stock everything. I started going through all the vacuum lines and wen I diconnected the one under the carb it started running alittle more like its supposed to and I have noticed alittle gas every no and again at the base of the carb and I had a friend look at it and told me the carb is bad but I don't c how it could not pull the air through the carb

Take the air filter off and look down the throat of the carburetor. Is the choke plate fully open or closed?

The choke plate is the top one. It sounds like your carburetor is running very rich [too much fuel for the amount of incoming air].

Perhaps a carburetor rebuild is in order.

That's what I was thinking of doing but the next issue is there is no tag on the carb so I searched the number on the base of the carb and can't find anything. I don't have the number on me to tell you what it is. I think its 7528s or 752ss I can't remember something around there
