CRS, Need a F-1 spec
I bought a V6 Ranger 8.8" rear axle out of Craigs List thinking it would bolt into my 1952 F-1 frame to help make it a "roller" and easier to move around my place. (I bought this truck a while back with no suspension.) This Ranger axle measures 39" center to center of the spring pads.
Somewhere I found the correct measurement for the rear spring mounts on a stock F-1 axle and now I can not seem to find that source. Anyone know? Will this Ranger axle just bolt into my 52 with the stock rear springs?
Thanks,
Walt
Thanks, alot of good measurements to know there.
I was out at Mid-50's today so I measured a F-1 they had on the lot, A stock F-1 measures 40" center-to-center on the rear axle spring pads.
So my Ranger axle is 39" center-to-center on the spring pads, so for 1/2" per side I am not cutting off the pads and moving them, I will be making an offset shim adaptor to go between the spring and the Ranger's pad which will accept the spring's center bolt but have it's own pin that is 1/2" over to fit into the Ranger's spring pad.
I will post a pic of the adaptor plate when finished.
From the spring to the backing plates is 4-1/8" on each side

Yes, while the brace is in-place, typically weld the top and bottom of the I-beam, then you remove the bracing and weld the center section. I have done this in the past with no issues.
This truck is being assembled just so it can be transported by trailer to buyer who plans to disassemble and built it to his specs. He may toss the the front axle for IFS, not sure what he has planned. I just had this axle left over from a prior project, so I did what was needed to make this truck into a "roller" for transport.
Rear wheels arrived and I mounted up some old 16" tires. The bed and cab are now bolted back onto the frame, secured well enough for transport on a car trailer.
So today I hope to get the front end mounted and the doors back onto the cab.
I stuck a sheet of 3/4" exterior plywood in the bed so all the loose parts can be shipped with the truck.
Pretty much ready to put on the trailer!
