Hi guys and gals, Today I received the last E/ brake cable in the mail, wich allowed me to finish up the brakes. So at this point The axle housing including seals is complete, the new bearings and rings are pressed on the axles, and the backing plates are done with all new brake parts. So now while I accumulate all the parts to rebuild the differential as a limited slip Posi, ill be disassembling and inspecting the open diff. that came with it. Take care and enjoy this season.
Good work Jim,
I wish I had your patience. I get too excited to get things together that I always end up leaving little things undone figuring I'll go back later and do it......nope.
It is looking good. My question to you is if you want a limited slip style carrier (Posi is a GM term, aka a swear word) don't bother disassembling your open diff (unless it is for fun) because the only way to change it over is to use a mini-spool, which you don't want on the street for your use. You can not convert a open 9" to limited slip. You can pick up a trac-loc and rebuild it or go with an after market set up.
Mitch, I believe they are 45 3/8", anyway they are just like the ones on my truck now. I just didn't want to take My truck out of service as I proceed with this project by using the old ones. The cables are made for an F1 (48-52) part # 1C-2275-A from Dennis Carpenter. The ones off the 72 F100 wont work. Dave, I realize I can't use the open carrier, but I was planning on using the ring and pinion gears and case's, that is mostly what I was talking about, and a mini spool or locker would be a little harsh for my needs. But as always I appreciate all the input I can get, and will take any tips I can get, that's the only way I learn. Thanks to everyone for your input.

I'm sorry Dave, I have a reading disability and read rite over your suggestion of the Trac-Loc. That is exactly what I've been reading up on. Thank you.
No problem, you always do a good job of research on your projects. I just don't want to see people make the same dumb mistakes I made way back when I had to have a 9" in my first Mustang and I must have bought 3 or 4 wrong diffs .
Jim,
I have a Trac-Lok 3rd member in my truck. Of course, staying true to my nature, I had the 3rd member sitting on a shelf for about a year before I put it in the truck. Do you think that in all that time I could have put new clutches in it?
Nope, I couldn't be bothered.....LOL
One of these days I'll have to pull it out and rebuild the clutch pack. I'll be interested in hearing of your adventures with yours.
Bobby

I don't know about that Bobby, you may just get yours done B4 me, All it takes is $$$ and more $$$ rite? LOL. Now if I could just get a line of credit with Summitt that would move things rite along. It seems as if my Pay pal account is, well you know, Ha Ha!
Who knew Summit actually did have a payment plan, I'm in trouble now. A brand new Trac-Lok, and two new brake drums later, I then found myself digging for ways to get the stuff from Currie that Summit didn't stock. Un fortunately I found a way, and since I recently had a birthday My wonderful wife didn't mind a few box's being delivered. So Im set to proceed on the project, feeling pretty guilty, but ready to proceed, none the less.
