So I wanted an explorer as they bigger than my freelander so I swapped .. so far big mistake x had a rattle at back of motor left hand bank when looking from front. Blokes who should know told me timing chain and need to yank motor to fix. So I drive few days park then go back to start truck is all turning but no starting. My thought is timing chain Fubar as didn't appear to have much else wrong with it. It turns over no loud noises but no firing either .. only other thing was idiot at tyre place put smaller tires on front than back and had to limp about 30 km back to get em changed .. but was till starting ok just couldn't drive over 50 kmh was 2 drives after this one that happened ..
Have you checked for spark and fuel? I'm think if the timing chain were the cause of the no start currently there would be a difference in the sound of the engine cranking due either to low/no compression or pieces of the rear timing chain/gears/tensioners smacking around.
If you don't have spark or injector pulse the issue might be as simple as a bad crankshaft position (CKP) sensor. If there's no fuel pressure then it might be a bad fuel pump or somehow the inertia switch got tripped.
What year Explorer do you have? Usually the inertia switch is located through a small hole on the passenger side kick panel.
If your Explorer has Coil on Plug ignition you can still check for spark using an inline spark tester or a clip on spark tester but you need to be more careful about making sure you have a good connection between the coil pack and the spark tester. You can also backprobe the trigger input to the coil since if the ECM is not signalling the coil to fire you won't get a low voltage trigger to the coil primary.

your advice has been invaluable I sprayed some start ya ******* starter spray into the throttle body and it fires for a sec then dies so is fuel issue. I also pressed the little tire valve thingy while cranking no fuel. checked inertia switch seems ok so it will be testing for power at fuel pump if I can find it and proba fuel pump replacement thanks bro
The fuel pump is in the fuel tank and unfortunately, unless it's been modified by a previous owner, the tank has to be dropped to replace the pump.
You may want to confirm you have power through the inertia switch before dropping the tank just in case the fuel pump relay is the issue. If you have power through the switch for the second or two after the key is turned to Run, then chances are pretty good the pump is the issue.
