I've got a 1999 Ranger. It is a 3.0 V-6 with the automatic transmision. The speedometer won't work until you reach about 35 MPH, and the transmision won't shift until the speedometer starts working. Also, the ABS light has come on. I'm an old man (66 years old) and if it ain't got points and condensors, I'm lost. I'm thinking it's the speed sensor in the rear end, but I need some ideas.. Any help is greatly appreciated!
It sounds to me like you are on the right track regarding the sensor that controls your speedometer and shifting. Take a look through this recent thread: ABS and O/D stay on + speedometer malfunctioning .
Probably should have that ABS speed sensor checked out and/or replaced.
Good luck and keep us posted.
