I have a 2002 Ford Ranger Edge and, it has a 5-speed manual transmission. Recently, while driving on the freeway, I noticed a loud buzzing noise coming from the dashboard (I had already been driving for 45 minutes before this occured). I turned the air conditioner and the radio off and the noise continued. I then proceeded to pull off of the roadway. Once at a lower speed the noise stopped. I turned the vehicle off and checked all of the fluids and everything was normal. I waited for a little while thinking that the noise may be due to th A/C being on. I got back onto the freeway and the noise started again but only after I reached a speed of 65 mph. All of the instrument panels seemed to work fine. The sound was almost like radio interference or something but the radio was off and there are no speakers in the dash. I have asked several people who are quite familiar with Fords and no one has ever heard of something like this. Any suggestions on what is creating the noise?
No, I am pretty sure nothing fell through the vent. It isn't a sound that would be consistent with that. It only happens at above 65mph and gets louder when you accelerate more.
Note the engine rpm your at, when it occurs, pull over & stop, then slowly bring the rpm up to that level & listen, do you still hear it with the vehicle stopped????
If so, can you tell if it's to the passenger side, center, or drivers side & is it low down, high up, up front, or more toward the wind shield????
BTW you have an electric speed-o, no mechanical cable on this puppy, so we can eliminate that possibility.
