Hello everyone, just a quick run down. I have always been a Ford guy and for the most part owned newer vehicles. Recently my wife and I have decided to sell our 2007 Expedition to raise money for a down payment for a home. We used the Expedition mainly to tow our 22' camp trailer. We also have a 2012 Focus that we use as our commuter car.
About a week ago I bought a 1985 xlt lariat single cab with a 302 efi for $300. The truck has sat for about 6 years as the front drive line broke and destroyed the transfer case linkage. The more I work on this truck the more I like it and now I'm planning on getting it all fixed up and hopefully someday do a frame off.
So I've been lurking around on these forums for the last week and I am very impressed by the camaraderie and the eagerness to help others solve problems. I hope that at some point I will be as knowledgeable of my truck as most of you are...... Thanks in advance for opinions, tech. support and anything else that makes my journey or restoring this truck easier.
And now my first problem that I am not sure of. I have a np 435 tranny and a np 208f transfer case. When the drive line broke it sheared off the mount that the shift lever is mounted to, All the linkage to the transfer case is gone as well. So I'm guessing that the tranny to transfer case adapter needs replaced but when I try to find this unit the only adapter that I can find seems to be for a np205. Will this adapter work for this truck?
Also, a lot of you folks have some very nice looking trucks. I'm going to admit that I'm a little jealous.
Welcome to the forum, Justin! This is the place to be.
On the t-case, all of the Units Ford used have the same bolt pattern. So you can swap an NP205 with an NP208 with a BW1356, etc. But, the adapter is technically part of the transmission, so you probably won't find them sold separately. And, since some of the NP205's were divorced, so what you've found may not be the thing you need.
Bottom line is you may have to find another transmission.
Thanks for the info. Turns out I'll be rebuilding the majority of the drive train. Looks like this truck was in a dukes of hazard episode. Broken and bent shock mounts, oil dripping from just about every seal. Better safe than sorry, looking to build something reliable.
On the bright side, My good buddy who lucky for him lives directly across the street from and is also a mechanic at our local ford garage works for beer.
