Ok, so I know technically it's not a Ford, but I recently bought a 94 Wrangler with a 302 and what seems to be a Tremec T170 tranny. The only problem is that when the previous owner did the swap he neglected to re-install a transfer case! My question is, what is a good, readily available case to mate to that tranny. This is going to be a daily driver, not an ofroad rig. Thanks for any suggestions.
never heard of a t-170 till now but a quick search said it was in early 80's trucks. all the ford t-cases should bolt up to it, but what side is the front diff on on a 94 jeep?
either way i would rule out a 205. too heavy and big for a small jeep thats not a wheeler. i'd be looking at the np208's and borg warner cases as they are lighter and more than strong enough for dd duty. basically try and find out which t-case is the shortest because of your short wheelbase, and go with that one. the shorter the t-case the longer the rear driveshaft. the longer the rear driveshaft is the better the angle of it will be.
all ford front outputs are on the drivers side, so you're good on that. i don't know jeeps that well so i thought i'd ask beforehand.
start searching your local craigslist and junkyards for someone parting out a 80-90ish f150 or bronco. if at all possible try to get the driveshafts, shifter, and linkage to save money.
