Heat Riser Valve Replacement

Heat Riser Valve Replacement
Does anyone know where to find a new heat riser valve for a 215/223? My engine seems to take forever to heat up to operating tempture. I can't rotate the valve by hand when it is cold, so the piviot pin must be rusted in place and either in the open position or the valve is either burned out or rusted away. If I do find a replacement, the next trick is to remove the exhaust manafold.

I'd start here http://cgfordparts.com/
There are others - Mac's, NOSpartsunlimited, etc. what you need is a part # to plug in your search.

Personally, I wouldn't mess with it. They didn't work very reliably when new. I'd suspect your thermostat is sticking open partway at least. Previous thread on Y-block exhaust flappers here:

The P/N's are B4A-9467-A for the coil spring (several available from a websearch), and several different flappers available depending on year.

IF your exhaust manifold isn't cracked its because the heat riser is frozen in the open position. I find that is the only time manifolds didn't crack. when they worked (and never did that very well) caused too much heat and the manifolds were prone to cracking.
My advise is to leave it be

I read up a little bit on them in various forums online trying to get a handle on it and - at least regards the Y block V8, it seems like they can cause real trouble if, or when they are rusted shut. Many people either remove them, or wire them open. Too there's no provision for it anyway with dual rams horns or headers. Somebody claimed they are really only designed or necessary to prevent carburetor icing - and conditions have to be just right (or wrong) for this to occur, a few minutes extra warmup before starting out in sub-freezing temps will prevent this.
Replacement coil springs seem to be the same across different makes and models and cost around $20 (Ford never sold just the spring afaik) the flapper arm weight should move open under light finger pressure or under engine acceleration and the valve opened continuous when engine is warmed up.
