Which scanner?

Hello all. I am looking for recommendations as to which OBD2 OBDII Scanner (preferably Bluetooth) to buy. I have both Android and Apple products available to pair with, so that is not a big concern. I just don't know which scanner will be the right one to "read" any potential problems with my truck. Also, I am not sure which scanners might include a table of what each code might mean (unless that comes up on the paired device after downloading the right software). I am looking to build my onboard tool kit (specifically concerned about EGT sensors) and I know the scanner is a bit part of that tool kit. I guess if I get the "stop safely now" message I am most concerned with being able to determine which EGT sensor is having issues. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks, Glenn

the bluetooth ODBII adapter, is just a general interface. the ODBII interface is programmable.. commands are sent to the ECM to provide data on the ODB serial data lines. so its request response..

have you looked at the Torque Pro application? We have an ongoing topic of what sensors are available and are updating the list frequently.
I maintain the packaging of the list of sensors we know about.

here is a post with links to some folks layouts on their android device

here is the latest plugin version info page

and also post 35 of that topic. (base how to install plugins)

Mine is a cheap Chinese one from from the auction site. Works well with TP on Android. on iPhone you'll need a wifi adapter as apps can't use the bluetooth.

What I am looking for right now is a device holder for the truck.

it needs to do a set of things

1. secure in a cupholder (I have 4, can give up 1)
2. hold my Note 3
3. hold my Tab 3 7in tablet, 4.6 inches wide
4. LIKE it to also support the QI wireless charging function.

I can find 1 & 2 or 1 & 3, or 2 & 4.

once I have 1 & 2 and 3, I can add a samsung Tec Tile to the holder, and the device can get notified on proximity (arrive, lose) to flip bluetooh/wifi as appropriate, and start torque pro (and my FW wifi review camera app on the tablet)

The Ram system is a component base system. Meaning you can buy the Cup holder mount, ANY size extension arm, and to a couple different system mounts for the Tablets.

Personal (Thanks to you guys!!) I am mounting a 7in tablet using this mount. The "holding grips" don't stick out as far around the tablet with this mount, vs the one mentioned above.

RAM Tab-Tite? Cradle for 7" Screen Tablets including the Amazon Kindle Fire, Apple iPad mini 1-3 & Google Nexus 7

RAM-A-CAN? II Universal Cup Holder Mount with Universal X-Grip® Holder with 1" Ball for 7" Tablets

FYI Scroll to the bottom of this links, there are video's on each of the mounts.

just to clarify, you are using the Tab-Tite holder?

I want a holder that can handle whatever device I have in my hand.
Note 3 or Tab 3 (7 inch).. around town, not towing, I will have my note 3. towing I will use the tab, cause it also does my trailer rear camera.

No switching heads, same device has to hold either.. looks like the
RAP-299-3-UN10U, RAM Mount Universal X-Grip IV Vehicle Cup Holder B-Ball Mount will do it.

I had the X-grip and it worked fine. I just did not l like the way the "*****" stuck out. (Personal thing) I returned it and got the plain Tab holder. RAM-HOL-TAB-SMU.

Based on a quick search of sizes of your tabs, I don't think this will work for both your devices.

Can't really go wrong with any of the RAM mounts.

Looks like you bolted to the bottom of the cupholder.

Mine came today, using the squish in cupholder base. with the 3.5 inch medium length arm.

I am getting a LOT of head shake. do you?

also, when the X is opened wider for large devices, it rotates some,
so the head doesn't stay oriented where I put it. particularly with the Tab 3 turned landscape mode, with the power cord plugged in.

RAM say to jam something into the open space on one side of the x to keep it in place.. course I can't leave the device out in the open in the truck, so this would entail a lot of painful config each time.

Sam I did bolt mine to the bottom of the cup holder. I removed the rubber cup and bolted through the plastic. I do not see much vibration. That sucks about the rotation. I just have my phone in the grip and it works well. Jamming something in the open space doesn't sound ideal. Sorry it's not working as you hoped it would.
