I have a 1990 F250 4x4 with a 302 that I am getting ready to pull for a complete rebuild. The truck sits on 33 inch tires so it is pretty tall. How many of you that have pulled an engine went to the trouble to remove the grill and upper support assembly so you did not have to lift the engine as high and bring out straight out through the opening? My truck is in my garage with not a lot of overhead space so if I leave it as is I will have to push the truck out into my driveway to have the overhead clearance to lift the engine all the way up and out.
I've pulled the core support when I wanted to clean up the engine compartment while the truck was apart… did it on my old '89 F150. But putting it on jack stands does fix your problem...
I pulled the core support when I did my Bronco diesel swap but I had to anyway since the diesel core support is different. I put the front on blocks of wood to lower it even more as I did not want that 950# pig up any higher than I had to.
I had enough room with a 7'10" ceiling to pull my 460. I used the wheel removal method with the hubs and my TTB down on blocks. Just barely enough though. Had to watch the pan drain bolt really close as I pulled it over the grille.
