Thanks. Actually there are ways to do it but it isn't recommended for a heavy truck. AT5 won't hold up to the weight of a laden truck or the torque of an FE.
My recommendation is a Tremec TKO-500/600. Opt for the $150 shortened input shaft and it'll bolt to a stock bell. 'Beats having to buy a $650 QT bellhousing or using an adapter plate.
I got my TKO 500 from Modern Driveline- Ford, GM, Mopar Muscle car overdrive conversions using Tremec TKO & T5 5-speeds and T56 5-speeds.
