Good morning Scott, Dave, Jim and Jerry. Fresh snow on the ground - not a lot, but surely more than we want or need for the end of April. Sort of takes the fun out of spring. Happy Friday - not going to be much of a weekend for yard work. Gerry, you can keep the Canuckistan weather north of the border for all I care.
Have a great day folks. Opening bidders conference today for a major restoration project at church so I'll be out f the net - my project to manage for the church.
I hope so Gerry. If we screw up a whole corner of the church, along with the roof, could be on the ground. Historic building with some major water damage inside the walls, which are 24-30" thick stone. Water has washed out the cement in the mortar that holds the stones in place leaving just sand as a binding agent. Should be a fun project.
I learned a long time ago that projects like this one are pretty specialized and a lot more complicated than most people would understand. I have the best architect and engineer in the state, who specialize in historic site restoration and who understand the old construction methods, on my team. I can manage the construction project and the daily details around materials, scheduling, etc. but these two are my go to on tech specs, bracing, shoring, mortar color and composition, etc. In the long run you pay less to hire good help than you do to hire hackers and then have to fix what they screw up.
Too bad your boss doesn't understand the concept - he'd pay you a lot more.

You hit the nail right on the head. I found out this morning he bought a brand new 2015 f-350 superduty last night, mason dump. I asked what engine, he didn't know, I asked what the GVWR was, Whats that? I asked him what ratio is in the axle, no clue. I told him you have 2 guy's here that would go with you to make sure your buying the right stuff, he said buy a one ton you told me, there are so many configurations that you can get, if you got one with a 3.08 ratio, what are you going to tow or what do you want to carry in the dump body. A 3.08 will do good on gas and ride nice on the highway, but that's not what we need. you want to haul 3/4 clean stone, a bucket of that is 3 tons, how long will this truck hold up over loading it every day. That's the one they gave me the best price on. Yea for what reason? So i wont even know what we got till 11am when the dealer is dropping it off, I have to put the wood sides on it and the warning lights. He doesn't even know if it's 4 wheel drive or not and it will be a plow truck, I didn't even ask him if it has the plow prep package. You can't run a business this way, buy the cheapest truck they got.
I love old churches...the architecture is amazing. Unfortunately...maintaining them is an extraordinarily expensive proposition...almost impossible with todays shrinking congregations.
