I recently bought a 2000 Ford Ranger 2WD 3.0 Flex fuel with 53,000 miles. Not long after I had it, I drove from Florida to North Carolina and got the check engine light. When it didn't clear, Ford shop pulled code P1151- Lack of HO2S-21 Switch, Sensor Indicates Lean. They told me the PCM reads altitude above sea level and code probably wouldn't come back once I returned to FL. Since returning last week,it has been back 2 times. Cleaned MAF and throttle body then disconnected negative cable. Code returned, installed plastic DPFE and disconnected negative cable to try again. Checked flex fuel sensor connection, didn't see any moisture or corrosion. That was yesterday morning, this evening Autozone says P1151 is back. In park, when I give it some throttle, I get the helicopter/machine gun effect. Where should I look next? Pretty new at this, any help would be greatly appreciated.
At the top of this forum is a "3.0L Technical Info & Tips" Sticky Thread that has a link to OBD-II codes with nice descriptions of the codes and possible causes. If you look up your code P1151 you will see a whole list of things to check. It does sound like you have been doing the right things trying to fix it, just no luck yet.
My gut feeling is that you have a bad H02S.
Take a look through the codes to get some ideas, and then if you have any follow-up questions, post them here.
Good luck!

your gut feeling was right. replaced O2 sensor and truck seems to be running fine now. i have a question about the thread where someone added ethyl rubbing alcohol from the pharmacy to a tank of gas. the only stuff i could find was 30% water. will this cause the truck to run rough or is it not enough to cause any trouble?

Sounds like you'll be dumping a cup or so of water into your gas tank, probably not a good idea.
