We have the heads off and confirmed top dead center of the #1 piston on the compression stroke by damper line in place, piston head flush with block and both lifters in their lowest position. This should be enough to confirm TDC of the #1 piston correct?
If so, this should also provide evidence that the crankshaft gear and the camshaft gear are aligned correct?
It confirms that the mark on the damper is lined up correctly, giving you TDC.
It also confirms that at the point you checked it you were at TDC on the compression stroke rather than the exhaust stroke.
It does not necessarily confirm that the cam and crank are lined up correctly. You could easily have the timing chain off a few teeth and still have both lifters at the lowest point. But it does confirm you aren't one crank rev off.
It also does not guarantee that every time your damper shows TDC that you'll be on the compression stroke. The damper is on the crank so if you were to turn the crank one full rev you'd be back at TDC but on the exhaust stroke that time.
