Ok. So I have finally started digging into my "wandering" issue. Well...at least on the truck. I put my address in my underwear in case I get lost when wandering....
Anyway... I had my wife turn the wheel back n forth and I found the ends of a part a little loose and popping so I figure that's the issue... But one problem...
WTH is it called!?
It is connected from the pitman arm to the bar that the tie rods attach to. So is it a drag link? Center link? What?
I found center link online and it looks like the same as the passenger side but the end that connects to the pitman... I can't find it either.
It seems t have the same threaded sleeve so you can replace the ends. The end to the pitman is short...about 8 - 10 inches long. The longer end is about 2 1\2 ft long.
HALP!
It's the drag link. But it comes in 3 pieces. Or do I just get the whole damn thing?
You can purchase just the end.
Now, these are torqued on BUT, they still have some play because they have to articulate. You should be able to move it with some moderate force with one hand.
Sounds as though the bushing is shot if its thumping.
When you change it, before dismantling anything, use a yellow lumber crayon or soap stone and put a line across all the pivot parts. You sometimes have to get quite nasty to show them who's boss. Use some penetrating oil and let it soak for a half hour.
On most(if not all) part look ups you will be looking for inner and outer tie rod ends, plus the sleeve to join them.
As the local parts house for a drag link and you will get the 1000 yard stare........
Yeah I am finding that the passenger side is listed as the "Drag Link" or "Center Link", but the drivers side end is just listed as "Tie rod end" Then the adjuster sleeve.
But need to be sure that the tie rod end is specifically listed as "Attached to pitman arm" or you get the regular tie rod ends and those are different.

Just thought I'd mention. - Might have alignment checked after replacing. When I did mine a few years ago it needed to be re-aligned after.
