460 engine Need advice

460 engine without EFI. I am considering purchasing a 1988 Winnebago 25' Class C motor Home with the 460 Ford Engine. Unfortunately it isn't Fuel Injected. It has 103,000 miles on it and the owner says it runs great. What should I do to check out the engine. I haven't seen the vehicle yet but will at 3pm today. I'm guessing a compression check would be appropriate but what other things should I do to insure the engine is good? Thanks for any help you can provide. (If there is another source for the information I am asking please let me know) There is a long hill near me that I will take it up to see if it stays cool.

Check all the fluids you can too. Any oil in the coolant or vice versa could be a problem. Make sure no fluids are mixing with each other.

you don't need to run a compression test, but I wouldn't talk you out of it.

pull the oil cap or pull the dipstick and stab the throttle a few times, then hold 2000ish rpm....there can be smoke but no oil coming out of the tube or the oil cap.

in-the-field blowby test.

I have found that motor homes of That size with carbed engines to be really poor performers and complete gas hogs. If it runs good and the oil is normal color and there isn't a ton of blowby the engine is probably good. The ones we had in the day weren't worth the time to burn them down when we where in the mountains. Barely able to pull themselves along at altitude.
