bad guys are good at ****** an go with easy to remove gates are devices to lock um mine cost .50c a hose clamp on open end with screw tucked under makes it pretty hard for a walk by theif to take time try get it off yes i know could cut it with chisle or screwdriver ect but would make noise and give me and my 2 friends (S&W) time to ck it out what yall think?

Those who have locking tailgate handles would take head to lock theirs, as well. They'd have to pick or pry the lock on the tailgate itself to open it before they could take it off. Mine came with this feature, but if it hadn't, I would also use the hose clamp method.

Don't worry, like tigerman said, just look at your gate. It's the only spot where you can put one of those smaller hose-clamps (the "worm drive" style clamps). 1997RangerXLT is right, too, about protecting the paint. Some duct-tape folded in on itself (no "sticky part" exposed) can work too, in a pinch.
Now how would I know that? Just because I have a locking tailgate doesn't mean I trust myself to remember locking it every time...
Dorks take the tailgate off and put a net on to look cool. later they find the tailgate is rusted from laying in the grass or they back into the trailer a dozen times and then want to trade.
Tailgates are easy to steel and worth big bucks, and you can shop for the right color.
Put the clamps on, ask if you need pics, I have a camera.
