Overdrive OFF light code and misfiring COP s
My 04 5.4 230000 mile Ex had developed a shudder when downshifting from overdrive or upon hard accelerating. It would also occasionally stall at idle. One day while in the McDonald's Drive Thru it stalled 3 times and the OD OFF light on the shifter lever began flashing and the Check Engine Light came on. Each time it stalled it restarted ok. I was able to clear the OD OFF light by simply pressing the on/off button on the end of the shifter but the Check Engine Light remained on.
I sent it to the Ford Dealer. They said they were getting Transmission codes but were able to clear the codes and found no issues with the transmission. They did find the #1 and #5 COPs misfiring. They replaced the COPs and the Ex runs fine!
