Speaker wire placement.

Hey everyone. I bought the stock speaker wire looms for the door from Dennis carpenter to add speakers to my door. However I don't know where to drill the holes or even what size it needs to be. Does anyone have pictures of the stick locations or know the proper hole sizes?

Thanks!

I did the same a few years back: check out this thread - some people posted helpful info. There are dimples from the factory where you'll need to drill - just a matter of picking the right ones.

The hole only needs to be slightly larger than the wire you're trying to pass. Be sure to use some type of grommet so the rough edges don't chew up your wire. If you're going the plastic grommet route, be sure to put a little silicone on it so that you don't get water in through the little gaps the wire will leave.

The factory harness has a large grommet on it because the hole has to be large enough for the plug to pass through.
The other posters are correct, there are dimples to mark where the hole needs to be drilled.
Here's a picture of my driver's side when I drilled the door jamb. I haven't done the door yet.
I'm not home right now so I don't have the size handy but I'll look it up when I get back from work this evening.

I just put the DC speaker wiring in this past weekend. As the pictures show, there are dimples where the grommets locate. I used a 3/4" hole saw on the cowl, and a 1-1/16" on the door. You could possibly use a 1" hole saw in the door but it seemed tight to me, check yours to see which is better. I used a stubby 1/8" drill bit on an angle die grinder to locate the pilot hole in the door, drilling from the opening between the door and cowl. I then used the hole saw from inside the door to get the grommet hole. Use some silicone spray on the grommets and a wood dowel to press the grommets in.

When you get a chance could you tell me what speakers and head unit you bought? I'll be doing this soon as well and want to see what everyone else recommends. Thanks and goodluck.

Here are some more pics of the OEM wiring. Hole size is a bit smaller than the smallest part of the rubber grommet or as shown in my pics. Cab hole is 3/4" door hole is 1".... The 3rd pic is a measurement up from the top of the top door hinge.

My apologies for my dummy answer. I didn't go the factory harness route and didn't realize you're dealing with a connector.

No harm no foul, yes I think the original poster is asking/talking about a OEM stereo/door speaker wiring harness with the built in rubber grommets.

The harness is one piece from the stereo to (red) connections at the dash back side area, and then also at the door speakers.

You are talking about this way?

I actually bought an aftermarket 1 din and cut the dash, however I modified the stereo/heater control bracket (with a little welding) and made sure I could fit the stereo and keep both the top and bottom mounts for the bracket. I'm not home right now, but will post some pictures when I get back on Sunday.
