Hey all,
I just joined FTE, so glad to be here. I have recently bought this F100. It was advertised as a 1965 and the tag receipt listed it as a 65, but after doing a little research I believe it is a 66 (not sure). VIN TAG INFO:
F10AL867848
115 N F100 281 C 08
05000 129 4000 28
The tag has been painted over but I believe I'm correct on all the numbers.
It has a brake issue that I need to correct, so I'll asking more questions later.
Thanks for looking.
DSO 28:
28 = Louisville Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.
.
Could be an M and I believe in 65 or 66 that might be Wimbledon White. It was the code for Corinthian White in earlier years. Look up under the dash and see if any of the original color is still there.
Welcome and yes a nice looking F100. I like that color.
Thanks everyone. This is a great site to get info.
Yes I have seen some blue paint in the inside door jams.
One other thing I've wondered about is chrome moldings and fender emblems.
Is there any way to tell if this truck came with them?
All 1966 F100 and F250 trucks would have originally had the fender emblems but it is not uncommon to remove them and weld the holes shut during a paint job.
The trim that ran down the sides of the truck was not chrome but anodized aluminum. When new it does look almost as shiny as chrome. The trim was probably more common on the custom cab trucks than the standard cab trucks. To remove them is easy and likewise holes could be welded shut. Unless someone took a good deal of time to clean up the welds prior to painting you should be able to see some of that work on the backsides of the panels. The cab corner trim that is in the area of the gas cap would be where I'd look carefully first to see if I could find any evidence of prior holes that had been filled by looking at the inside. The inside of the doors at that level might also give a clue. Would be tough to grind down any welds inside of the door, but not impossible.
Thanks Bill,
It must be "H", I noticed on the last tag receipt from 2011 it had the color listed as BROWN. So that makes sense.
Thanks again for the info. most helpful.
Your decode (most of it taken from one of my posts ) left out KY after Louisville.
Most 1966 F100/250 Standard Cabs did not come with side mouldings, but all F100/250 Standard/Custom Cabs & Rangers came with front fender emblems.
Just trying to keep the formatting consistent. Lol.
I was not sure about H being valid or not. Page 5 of Paint Section seems to not list anything for 1966 on the CD-ROM, but now that you say Sahara Beige that makes sense.
"H" info from the 1966 FoMoCo Passenger Car/Truck/Bronco/Econoline paint chip chart used at the parts counter. Has the actual colored chips glued to it.
You should not go by the paint chart in the 1964/72 truck C/D parts catalog (which was scanned from the May 1975 loose leaf paper final edition).
When the touch-up paint was obsoleted, the part number was deleted from the catalog by FoMoCo.
