Does an IDM need to be Programmed?

Does an IDM need to be Programmed?
I've got a 2000 F350 with a 7.3, and I'm replacing the IDM. I am wondering if it will need to be programmed to the truck. I learned the hard way on a 2009 F450 when I replaced the BCM, and had to gather all the keys for it and get someone over to program it. I am hoping that I can just plug in the IDM, mount it, and go.
