Something is wrong!! Even with a 1V carb you should have no problem going faster then 65mph!
Did you recurve the distributor when you did the swap? Did you check the timing advance ( mechanical and vacuum ) ?
If you timed it using the timing marks on the balancer, did you verify the timing marks were correct? The outer rings on the balancers have been known to slip. meaning the timing marks are off.
