I had both systems flushed and filled with distilled water in December due to failed coolant so that is a loss.

Loaner is a 2015 F150 CC 3.5L ecoboost. That's a nice engine for a 150. It's a fun truck to drive. I hear the turbo better on this truck than the 6.7L. I'm liking the styling more in person as well. I think I was more thrilled about the tire PSI screen for each wheel than most everything else in the apps, I bet that'll finally be a feature of the rebuilt SD series.

No, it'll be a few days at least before they can get to it. It is spring break around here for all schools so a good percentage of people are gone on vacation, including Ford master techs who want to vacation with their families.

It would be a larger issue if I had to pay for a rental but since they provided one, they can keep my truck until it's fixed. I won't need to tow anything for a few weekends. I'll post once the leaks is confirmed. Looking at the leak, I'm convinced everyone here is correct.

Truck was ready Friday. It was the primary water pump. I walked out the door with a $0 invoice. Pump, coolant, distilled water and a loaded F150 loaner. The belt replacement was a good suggestion I didn’t think of but I didn’t pursue its replacement either. We’ll see if that bites me later.

The only early concern is a hot rubber smell after being at operating temperature and stopped.
No noticeable problems that I can find so I’m going to see if it eventually goes away this week, if not I’ll have that addressed.

A few observations for the heck of it. I have owned my truck since new for about 58 months so I know a thing or two about its behavior. For all of these months, coolant has always reached 195°F and hovers around that number but rarely passing 200°F, even during a regeneration. The only way for it to pass 200 is in August with a loaded trailer and a heavy foot with 205°F being the highest number I've noticed up a decent nearby 3 mile grade.

I have driven it to operating temperature 9-10 times so far and the new normal is to reach 195°F as always, hover there for about a minute then continue to climb and reach 201°F which we know is when the second thermostat opens. After less than a minute, temps immediately drop to 188° and bounce between that and 192°F. This is empty and it’s in the mid 70’s currently.

So, the truck overall runs cooler on the water but fluctuates more than in the past and initially reaches higher temps. Even towing, it was rare my truck activated the second thermostat. Obviously well within tolerances, it’s just interesting.

Thanks all for the pump diagnostic.

Hi kper05,

Thanks for the update; I'm glad you're back on the road again! Let me know if that rubber odor goes away; I'll be happy to get involved, if needed.

Crystal
