It seems like the newer Maxxforce 7 engines with the CGI block are a nice upgrade from the original version. Could one of these be easily swapped into a Super Duty if the original 6.4 Powerstroke outlived its useful life? Or are there other differences that would not allow this to work?
I believe it could be done, but it would be a lot of work and not much benefit. That's my take on it.
I think the CGI block is more for noise and weight reduction, more than strength.
I think the blocks are pretty much identical, but the pistons are different, turbo system is different, fuel system is different, etc.
There would be a lot of work involved and custom software, and who knows what else.
I think even if you did manage to make it work, other issues would arise, such as the way the pistons fit in the 6.4 PSD, and the navistar fit tighter, but doesn't have as high of a power rating, so would it seize right up?
I thought I remember someone actually doing it, reading about it at least.
I remember it sounded like a lot of work. Enough work that you'd be better off just using a 6.4 PSD block unless you liked extra work and had a crazy nice shop to work on stuff.
