Platinum - De Chromed

Just ordered a 15 F350 Platinum SRW Black on Black. Hate all the chrome on the mirrors, door handles and step bar. Thought about a King Ranch just not into the big "W" all over the seats.

My plan is to remove the step bars and replace with AMP power steps. Just need to figure out the door handles and mirrors. I know you can order the mirror caps and have them painted, just figured there might be some better ideas that are more cost effective.

I've thought about the Plasti dip, but not sure how that would hold up. Would having the dealer paint them hold up? Or maybe Linex the mirrors? Door handles I might have to just deal with.

Appreciate any ideas you might have!

On the handles and mirrors, I'm betting you can find someone who will trade you their black ones for your chrome capped ones.

Seeing as I have a Platinum EXACTLY the way you ordered it... I feel the same way, but don't really want to spend any money doing it either. It has grown on me though.

My experience with plasti-dip in the way I use my truck is that is doesn't hold up. So I would cross that option off.

I can't imagine that a junk yard wouldn't have the black plastic mirror caps.

Or as Rodney said, I am sure there is someone somewhere that wouldn't want chrome ones instead of their black plastic ones.

You may even want to ask your DEALER as they may swap them out for you to spruce up one of their other trucks...

I have a 2015 Ford F-250 Lariat with all black mirrors. I have 5,100 miles on it. I don't know if I like all black mirrors. It might take a lot of work to swap mirrors! Image driving down the road without mirrors for a week or more if I swap mirrors with you. Did you try junk yards?

Personally I have a 2015 Platinum and if I didn't like it I wouldn't have bought it. You can always buy down on the bling and then am up.

Not sure about the door handles or mirror caps, but you'll love the power steps, I hate the sponsons that Ford puts on them.

Platinum you are stuck with the chrome stuff. If you don't get the platinum you don't get the heated steering wheel. Just ask Roy about that.

I found a solution to dimming down the chrome exhaust on my truck. It's called "Alaskan Winter". Wish I could figure out how to get the muck off of it when a pressure cleaner doesn't work...

Appreciate the feedback! I might try my dealer and swap the mirror caps off a used truck. Worth paying the labor for.

The only reason I went with the Platinum was the painted bumpers and satin finish grill.

If Ford would just give us a Limited option, it would solve on these chrome issues. Please bring back the Outlaw package like on the 05-07 models.

They new "outlaw" is now called black ops edition....

New 2015 Ford F-250 Super Duty Black Ops - Serving Milford DE - Preston Motor

I would never pay that price for it... and I would assume those could be special ordered and waited on as well. I don't know much about it either, so of course, you need to do your own research on it.

You can sell your door handles and get plain unpainted ones painted to match. Someone out there will certainly want those chrome mirror caps, or like you said the dealership would probably be glad to swap them to another truck in exchange for plain black plastic at no charge (they will add it to the sticker of the other truck). When I bought my truck I had them swap the 20's out for the 18's. They had another truck it was perfect for anyway that they were doing up. They certainly didn't charge me, in fact took an obscene amount of money off the MSRP to reflect the change.

That "Black Ops" stuff isn't real. Dealership project or Tap-Out wannabe rolled it off the lot into a "customz" shop before they called him to let him know the financing fell through bro.

I have the exact same opinion/issue as the OP. I bought the Platinum trim because I wanted the most black I could get. Chrome grille and bumpers was way too much and I wanted the black interior. If it was easy to trade the chrome stuff for black I would. I just have too many projects to deal with it all right now. I may eventually do black mirror caps, door handles, and even the grille.

There are no black mirror caps - either it has a chrome cap, or nothing. The mirror itself is black, and wraps don't stick to it. If you have a chrome cap, you can wrap that.

King Ranch trucks have painted mirror caps. Just don't want to spend a fortune on them. Need to find someone with a King Ranch that wants chrome caps.

Not for sure why Ford didn't make all the chrome Satin finish like the Grill and tailgate strip. Someone went Chrome Happy on the Platinum package. Glad they didn't put one of those chrome fuel door covers on it. That would have been a deal breaker for me.

I completely agree about the mirrors and door handles. I had planned to spray a satin clear on my caps and door handles, but never got around to it. I love the satin grill, but really don't care for the bright chrome everywhere else. I really don't care for the giant aluminum panel on my tailgate. (At least it's not chrome - as you pointed out.) It looks good on several colors, but brown isn't one of them. Thankfully, I don't see the back of my truck often.
