Electrical plug ???????

While I was under my 07 E350 I noticed an electrical plug behind the rear axle and in front of the spare tire, just hanging there. It is maybe 1 inch by 2 inches with a lot of wires. Nothing goes into it. Is this van pre wired for trailer lights etc? Or what else is it? It looks like it has been damaged a bit. Thanks for any help.

Without a picture ...my best guess is the Trailer/Towing Package connector....

There are 2 wires on each end. The rest in the middle. One end has a green and yellow. Too dark to tell the colors on the other end. I think about 10 wires or so all together.

Is there some kind of plug I can buy to plug into it? Either from Ford or aftermarket?

Absolutely ....I think you have to disconnect the connector.....and take that with you .....Vehicle Trailer Wiring Harness, Adapters and Connectors | etrailer.com

What is there is just the female side of the plug. There might have been more at one time, not sure. There is no sign of the van ever towing anything. But I need to put in a 7 pin plug and a brake controller. If this is pre wired, is there also the wires for the brake controller somewhere up front?

well yes ...you will need the controller up front as well .....Listen I've had to splice them on the fly.....If you have no box game is over.....Unless you want to tow Commando .....
