Multifunction switch malfunction

Good day forum,
I have a 2000 Excursion LTD with a V10, auto, 2wd. My problem is in the multifunction switch...I have no high beam flash function when the headlights are off, nor will the high beams illuminate when the lever is pushed forward. All other functions work as expected. I cannot help but feel that the malfunction is minor and may be nothing more than a poor contact or bad fuse.
Does anyone have any experience with these symptoms? I would rather not have to buy a new switch. Thanks in advance for any help.

That vintage of Ford trucks had issues with that switch, Had a 99 F150 that had to have its switch replaced.

Why haven't you done anything as basic as checking the high beam fuse?

When the lights are switched on, I can get Hugh beams by pushing the stem forward. It is only the flash function that doesn't work. Is there a fuse for the flash?

In your original post, you specifically stated
nor will the high beams illuminate when the lever is pushed forward
So, which is it? You've given both possibilities as the state of affairs, yet both cannot be correct.

Thre is a single fuse at the OUTPUT of the MFS for the high-beam circuit.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. I described 2 situations in my original post. With the headlights turned off, pulling back on the stem should illuminate/flash the high beams. I do not know if pushing the stem forward with the lights off will illuminate the high beams... Probably not. Mine does not. Now when the lights are switched on, pushing forward on the stem will give me high beams, but pulling back does nothing. I read about a fix involving a tear down, cleaning and re-greasing of the switch interior. I may try this as a replacement switch is averaging 85-125$

Since the headlights are switched OFF, they're supposed to stay OFF (unless you activate FTP).

If the high beams operate normally when the headlights are on but FTP doesn't work, then the switch is faulty.
