Another EGT Question.

Okay guys i know i recently posted a thread about EGT temps. And i got alot of good feedback. But i still feel I have a problem.. Could someone please tell me what could be the cause of high EGT's. What actually will cause your temps to be higher.. like some preventive maintenance things i could check.. Reason being i feel like mine are going to high. Not when driving down road at normal speed or anything. only like when i pull out somewhere and im not even on the throttle like maybe 9psi and my egt's will jump to 1250 1300. only for a split sec then go straight to 800 or 150. And this is the same for when i step on it about half throttle. Some feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I would suspect a bad egt probe. If you shoot your exhaust manifold with a infared thermometer gun your temps should be around 800+_ buy the head up to 1200 on the pipe. I have never seen an exhaust temp of 150 even with a 3/4 dead cylinder.
Compressed air in the cylinder has to reach right around there to ignite the air fuel mix.

If the truck doesnt downshift the exh temps will rise...but those temps do seem hiugh fer sure...why I don't know but 1250 would have me real nervous. Turbos and that temp do not go together well.
If I get on my 6.0 it does not downshift like my gasser adn will jump from 700 to 900 real fast but never over 1000....just numbers for reference.

It is studded with exhaust and egr delete. I just replaced the ficm with a half shell and the truck has a tune on it which I don't know what it is cause I bought it like that and didn't come with the tuner. Would a "cheap" tuner/tune cause the high egt??

Any tuner will raise EGT temps. I second the opinion on a bad EGT probe. I have an Edge CTS w/ probe and the probe has started to fail and will give the right temp, but then will just drop out from 300* or 400* and goto like 75* which you know is an invalid number on a running engine.

I wouldn't worry so much about 1250*. I've seen 1650* on super hard pulls that I've done. I typically see 1200* getting up to speed and then dropping back to 700*ish while cruising at 80mph.
