PH - Agree of the $990... Waste of money... The wrap around B-2-B sounds nice. $3500 for LIFETIME???? Although usually that means you have to do every maintenance at the dealer too. That might mean this is your last truck for a very long time. At least I would make it my last truck for a very long time if I could do that.
I think the Magnuson-Moss act specifically prohibits requiring all the maintenance at the seller.

I'd look closely at the fine print to see what the 'lifetime' is and if it is transferable. Also see if there is a maximum payout amount. I had a warranty on a Maytag washer that cycled out because it had soo many repairs. If that is the case that it only pays up to $3500 in repairs then it isn't worth it.

Always read the fine print.

I can do my own service. Just need to document it. It is not transferable but it's valid as long as I own the truck. The power train warranty is free, provided as a sales perk by the dealer, the bumper to bumper lifetime warranty is what cost extra. Like I said the power train warranty only covers what oil touches so engine, tranny, rear end. Things hanging on the outside of the engine alternator, power steering A/C etc are not covered

^^^Those are the major players and best prices. Sometimes you can get your local dealer to price match the online retailer.

I have seen some other manufacturer dealers doing that and there was always a catch. I hope that there is not in your case. And actually, hopefully you never need it anyways. Over the life of your last truck, how much in TOTAL repairs did you do that would have been covered by this lifetime warranty?

In the 145,000 that I put on the 2011 truck, It looks like the only thing it would have covered is my Front Bearing/Hubs. Which are almost $1000 in parts alone if you use Motorcraft parts.

I spent a little over $3000 for repairs on my 2011. Brakes, Batteries, Front Bearing/hubs, EGT sensors, Coolant fitting for the turbo, Serpentine belt and of course, coolant and tranny flushes. So it would have paid a $1,000 of my $3,000 in repairs. No bad for something the dealer gave away.

I'm looking at this mostly as protection against a catastrophic failure. Sucking a Valve, Glow Plug breaking off and dropping into the piston, Turbo failure, Tranny failure. And mostly for mileage beyond the normal warranty. It doesn't cover the fuel system. It requires a $100 deductable for the first 5 years and a $300 deductable after that. I'd really hate to have a $17,000 engine rebuild at 105,000 miles on a truck that was worth $30,000 at that mileage. At 30,000 miles a year, I'll have that kind of mileage before the truck is 3 1/2 years old

The limitations are 1. that the total of all claims can not exceed the purchase price of the vehicle. 2. For any covered claim, the value can not exceed the fair market value of the vehicle.

This didn't cost anything, It was just the decision making point of why buy from dealer A vs Dealer B when both offer the same price.

Thanks for the "fine print" which makes sense now. I am not knocking you for taking it or getting it... Just wanted to find out more about it. There were some scams along those lines in South Florida and the dealers never paid out a penny in repairs. What they did was basically sell all the policies and then the dealer changed owners before too many people were out of the 3/36.

But I knew there was some protection for the dealer, to avoid you driving your 20 year old, 800k mile truck in for its third motor either.

You seem to have great luck, so like you said, piece of mind.

I worked in new car dealers for almost 20 years. I think overall, if you want an extended service contract policy (and it is a policy, not a a warranty), the factory sponsored versions are the way to go.

I absolutely would never purchase any extended contract that was dealer specific. Same goes with smoke and mirrors "paint, interior etc" "protection" packages. A $5 can of Scotch-guard will yield you the same results.

FYI to all, if you purchased an extended warranty from a dealer you need to extend it through the same dealer or cancel and buy it elsewhere. I bought the 75k/5 year and want to move it to 100k/8 year, no other dealer will touch it.

I learned the hard way NOT to buy an extended policy from a third party. As for the "protection" ****, it's worthless and I couldn't agree with you more
