Clock Spring...does brand matter?

I have a 2001 Excursion Limited and have no function of the steering wheel controls (horn, cruise control). I believe I need a new clock spring but have read mixed reviews on the aftermarket options. Am I safe to go with say Dorman brand or should I stick to Ford in this instance?

Thanks!

Does this have anything to with the cruise control switch recall? I thought the dealer was to cut wires...I'd check under hood first.

I just learned of the recall you mention yesterday actually. I looked under the hood and I have the recall "jumper harness" installed, so I believe the recall was done. There is no fluid leakage at the fitting at the master cylinder. I am aware the inline fuse could be bad which could cause the cruise to not work but would that also disable the horn??

Thanks for the reply, appreciate it very much!

Not sure, hoping someone with more experience chimes in. I'm hoping it's simple...

When it comes to something that has to do with personal safety (airbag) only OEM for me as long as it is available.

I agree factory is the way to go for safety related items. I wouldn't hesitate if I was 100% sure the clock spring would fix the issue. May need to start a separate thread in regards to the cruise control recall jumper harness and if it is tied into the horn. If that fuse is blown, which is non serviceable, that could be the issue as well.

Thanks for the replies!
