Cruise control only works ocassionally

Sometimes my cruise control works and sometimes it doesn't. Thought this could be due to a bad ground. Can someone tell me where the ground is for this circuit? I recently cleaned up all the grounds I could find and could easily get to under the hood, but this didn't solve the problem.

Any other suggestions of what this may be if it's not a bad ground?

There is a recall out for the cruise control. I got the letter but haven't taken it in yet. Maybe that is your issue.

My horn does not work. Where is the clock spring and how do I change it?

Thanks for the help.

Here is a link to the manual for the Clockspring Replacement that I put together.

As mentioned, you should also look at the Brake Applied Switch on the Master Cylinder. If it is faulty, it will not allow CC to engage. You can get a switch for around $20. If you have not had the recall done, they will install it as part of the recall.

I checked the ford recall website and it says there are no current recalls for my vin #, so the previous owner must have had that recall done. I have only had the truck for about a year.

I think the Brake Applied Switch is working ok. I have the autoengenuity software and just installed it this morning on my laptop. You can select the Brake Pressure Applied switch to monitor from a dropdown menut on the software, and whenever i press on the brakes, it changes from "0" to "1" so I believe that means the switch is working.

Dont know if this is your issue, but I had the problem with my wifes Tahoe. After years of issues and several shops not being able to find the issue. It ended up being a switch on the brake. There is a connection that when the brake is applied it kicks it out of torque lock up, and also made the CC not work. Several shops said I need a new tranny. I just replaced the switch and been fine since.

Yep, the switch is on the master cylinder.

Have noticed recently when the horn doesn't work, the cruise doesn't work either, but when one works they both work, so think it is most likely the clockspring.
