I have a 97 with a ts chip and e4od trans. My trans began slipping and I had it built by a local guy. Triple disk converter and suncoast internals. Sometimes when I'm on the highway and go over quarter throttle the overdrive light will start flashing and it shows a p1728 transmission slip fault code. The thing is the transmission isn't slipping. I'm wondering if I have to get my chip retuned for having the triple disk converter? When the light is flashing the converter stays locked when I try to stop. Once I give it a little throttle it will unlock. If the lights flashing and I go into reverse sometimes the converter locks and the truck stalls. If I drive the truck with less than 1/4 throttle it doesn't act up.
If it is slipping than how can I fix it? It does it in every tune if I go over quarter throttle.
The first thing to do is to remove the chip and see if it stops. If it does then the chip is the problem.
If not, remove the access plate to the bellhousing. Look at the front face of the torque converter. If the steel is discolored from heat then the torque converter has failed and needs to be replaced. If not, then it is an internal transmission failure.
The thing is that even when a code isn't being thrown, it won't go into overdrive when it should. It doesn't go in until my temp gauge is up to 120+. And also right around there it drives like **** because it goes through the first 2 shifts fine but the lock up goes in too soon and the truck bogs and then it goes into overdrive right after. It really bogs down then.
