I am looking a purchasing a 97 f350 with the 7.3 and e40d. Durning the test drive the transmission would shift very hard to the point it would jerk your head back. The shift was very quick but hard.
I tried letting off the gas before the shift point and than it would go into gear smoothly. When getting on the freeway and using the skinny petal on the right to its fullest potential the shifts were hard quick and firm.
The owner said that it when it was rebuilt that it had a shift kit, triple clutch torque converter, and high end power valve installed. Said it was set up for towing and hauling heavy loads.
The gauge reader showed that the transmission was not running hot and it had plenty of oil.
Is this normal for a built transmission or does this sound like its on its last leg and ready to go out?
