Automatic Transmission Problems

First of all, thanks for having me this is my first post on the ford forum. I am a long time enthusiast and have always loved the 7.3. I have owned a 95 psd for the last 8 years with very few problems.

However with that being said, I recently purchased an e99 F250 and have had nothing but problems. Long story short I swapped the motor with another e99 motor and bolted everything back up drove it around town for a few days and everything seemed fine. I made my first long commute on the interstate, where it did fine, got off an exit and it preformed normally until i reached a stop light about 5 miles down the road. While at the light i went to take off and it would not budge in any gear. I killed it and restarted and managed to very slowly make my way to a fueling station and park it. When you first start it if it is cold, It will move in forward or reverse, however, after it slows down it will not go into any gear. The transmission fluid levels seem normal and there is no check engine light. I was told that it was probably the transmission fluid pump or the torque converter. I checked the fluid on the stick without the engine running and it was high. I cranked it, ran it through the gears and checked it again and the fluid was where it should be on the stick. Would this rule out the transmission pump?

Thanks in advance!

That does seem to rule out the pump. If the pump wasn't working the level wouldn't change with the engine running.

It won't move in 1, 2, D, or R? That would mean that something mechanical broke. It could be in the trans or the torque converter, but usually in the trans. Whatever it is the trans is going to have to come out and be rebuilt or replaced. Sorry.

Thanks for the reply!

It will move into 1, 2, D, or R as long as its when you first crank it and its cold. Not sure if that make anything different?

So you can drive it cold, but it won't move warm? There is a slight possibility that the feed bolts above the valve body have loosened and are leaking pressure. They would leak more warm than cold. I think it is more likely that you have worn or torn seals in the clutches.

That's the way it works unless you let off of the accelerator. Then it won't even move cold. Thank you. I appreciate all of the help

Feed bolts above the value body is where I would put my money. It's undoubtedly worth a shot since you DO NOT need to pull the trans to tighten them.
