I was thinking about the security issue with wireless routers. I don't want to point fingers so this is for everyone. They are as secure as wired networks. Why? Because they only talk to the cards that have the right IP address stored on them. I think a wored network would be a lot easier to hack into than then wireless because all you would have to do is splice into the incoming phone/dsl/cable line.
The security of a wireless network is in how it is set up. Most wireless networks are not set up properly and are very insecure.
You can't just cut into a cable in a wired network for access, you would have to have physical access to the property. Your settings on your computer would have to be set up properly for the local network to recognize it. Of course if you leave your workgroup name set to the defaults it will be easier. But in any case it would take breaking and entering into your home.
You may be able to splice into the incoming line but your physical modem must be recognized by the cable or DSL system so that will not work easily. Splicing into the incoming line will not give you access to the local network in your home.
to share the files from each computer
you need to hardwire the 2 together.
(Unless you go with wireless which has more problems)
To just have access to the internet on both computers you need to enter the needed info from your server into both computers and connect either to DSL,Cable or dial-up.
