I have a 2001 f350 crew cab dually automatic. Anyway my problem is it will not start cold unless plugged in. I have replaced the glow plugs, glow plug relay, fuel fitler, changed oil and the valve cover gaskets. I then checked the glow plugs and they ohmed out fine. When it starts it runs fine with plenty of power just can't figure it out. I'm running 15w40 rotella in it. Please help
Flatbed444E,
The 15W40 is recommended for ambient temps above 30F, while a 10W30 is recommended for ambient temps down to minus 10F. If you are below minus 10F, then you should consider a 5W40 Rotella T6 full synthetic or a 0W40 Rotella T6 full synthetic CJ-4 Diesel Engine Oil. However, we would also respectfully request that you have your 2001 F250 Crew Cab checked out by a qualified technician, as the oil viscosity choice may not have anything to do with your stated issue.
I've seen similar issues in the obs forum and the culprit was a cps problem. Below a certain temperature it wouldn't read properly, plug it in for half an hour it would be fine. Take the spare one that you should have in your glove box and give it a try. If it solves your problem game on, if it doesn't then you know that's not it and your not out anything because it was just the spare from the glove box anyway
