Driving home tonight in the rain, I was coasting down the road in neutral (ZF-6 so I can just flip it into neutral slowing down if I want) as I hit a slight bump in the road and touched the brake pedal, all my doors locked.
Never had that happen before and I coast down this same road coming home every day (pretty much since I've had the vehicle when new in 02). Not the first time it's rained and not the first time I've hit that bump.
I'll have to watch and see if this happens again. Anyone had similar issues or have any ideas?
I have had long delays on the 4 door auto-lock on my 02. Sometimes it is in the trip pretty good when they all lock. Not sure if it is the timer pulse or relay. It is very seldom though, and does not seem to follow any pattern.
GEM module is my knee jerk reaction. I recently replaced mine due to it being compromised and it had similar + numerous other symptoms. Just the other day while plowing the door locks triggered along with the cab light coming on and the door ajar light popping on.
our similarity is the wet windshield factor possibly leading to water dripping onto the electrical connections at the GEM.
Mine's an 02, so no GEM on the back of the fuse panel. I've got the VSM under the radio. Not to mention I've had half a dozen windshields.
My remote keyless entry is aftermarket though, and I'm starting to think that might be the issue. Truck locked itself overnight with a slight rain, then unlocked itself once today with no rain.
I checked with a place and they said 2 hours at least to install a new alarm system with keyless entry. Guess I need to find a place that does this that's close to a bar so I don't have to sit in some waiting room and watch Oprah.
hmmmm... that's just one of the symptoms of the VSM going out. Not saying you should jump to that conclusion right away though, like you say it could be the aftermarket alarm.
My VSM failure began with door locks randomly locking & unlocking but it gradually progressed to where the remote stopped working, the door ajar light stayed on, radio stayed on with key off, windows worked with key off, courtesy lights did some weird stuff and my auto headlights quit working automatically. A new VSM fixed it all but is wasn't cheap as the dealer installed and programmed it. So if you start to see any of those symptoms appear start saving up.
