Need Some Input Please.....

Parting with my 73' F100 XL that I've had for 35 years (second owner)..... 50K on a remanufactured 6.4L block engine with rebuilt heads..... C6 Trans.... Lots of new/recent parts. Mechanically sound, but cab mounts, rear fenders, & bed floor are rusted. Cab floor has been replaced.... I'll try to post a pic.....

Not a candidate to restore, but cheap transportation....... I'm located in NE Kansas......

What's a realistic price for the ol' beast?

I just bought a 79 f150 for 1500. both rear fenders, bed floor, cab floor, cab corners, and some frame work had to be done. from what you said about yours i would think the truck is worth way more. i would ballpark it from 3-5k

I'd need to see pictures ... if the rust is as bad as the description makes me imagine, I may not put it that high; if it doesn't have serious cancer, I'd put it in that ballpark though.

Thanks fellas for the prompt posts!

Wow! I would have guessed it to be considerably less! I'll post some pics to give you a better idea of the body condition.......

Here is where I ran into problems trying to sell my 74 f100. Mechanically it is great, but it is ugly as sin, and rusty. Only calls I got was from lowballers offering me scrap prices. So I finally got pissed off and am parting it out. By parting it out, I will save hundreds by using parts on the other trucks, and I will still have a drive train to sell, and still get a few hundred from the scrap pieces. Don't worry folks, I originally saved it from the scrap yard, and any piece that is on it that is salvageable will be taken off, including the roof. What goes to scrap will be rusted or of no major use to anyone.

Unfortunately parting this truck out really isn't an option given my circumstances......... I need to sell the truck outright or it could be headed to the crusher...... Not sure what's it's worth as salvage...... What are current scrap prices?

I'd hate to see the truck go by the way of salvage due to it being mechanically sound & would provide someone with cheap transportation..... It would be my last choice, but it's a rust bucket, so nobody is going to restore it..... Now if someone had a straight body, this would make a great parts truck...

see mine is not in that great of shape but I would want 2k for it( not for sale at the moment)

got this for $400 a year back, did have a grille and a fenders but no engine or tranny, it was a part truck but it got scraped mostly

I'd say500- 1500 but that's my 2 cents worth, mine is just as bad if not worse, but I would want at least 2k for it. looking back now I should have kept the red one and used the blue one as a part truck

Hmm... honestly, with that rust, I'd be hard pressed to give 1000-1500 for it. Parting it out, the drivetrain components, etc. could well be worth more, but as a vehicle, it'd be an awfully tough sell for 2k, IMO. Just my opinion ... others may have a better idea. I tend to value a solid, rust-free body higher than mechanical - the latter is easy to fix, but body work is a bitch. Too much sanding ...

personally, i think if the person knows how to weld you could get 2.5k for it. it is in better condition than the one i bought but mine was also sold with a decent engine that truly only needed a carb. if your in no hurry put it a tad higher and accept the offer you want. these trucks are worth a fortune restored.

Thanks again fellas! You've given me food for thought...... I really needed to hear from folks that are in the loop........ I'm 60+ & disabled, so I do very little wrenchin' these days...... Been paying shop labor to keep Ol' Green running & it's been driven VERY little the past few years & that itself can be hard on them, as the ol beasts need to driven on a regular basis.....

Put a new voltage regulator on her Sunday & took her for a spin to get the battery charged...... Got about two miles from home & she quit running... Acts like a fuel pump & I've put a couple on her myself in the 35 years I've had her, but I just had a hip replaced, so there goes another $200+ for labor.. plus a tow.....

When I posted this thread, I had a selling price of 8-$900 in my head .......
Hate to undercut myself, but I'm thinking of asking $1K & taking $800..... (I've spent that much in parts & labor over the last two years)

FWIW, I know the mechanical history of her since I'm the second owner, & I can substantiate all the work that's been done......

Sunday............

Agreed..... The mindset of buyers tends to overlook reliability for pretty....
