cant add gas to filler tube

so the explorer will not allow the gas in................... I need to SLOWLY add fuel as the handle keeps tripping. it takes for ever....
I removed the filler tube from truck and blew air into it and could hear it in tank. I tried to blow thru the smaller tube (over flow maybe) and couldn't get air thru. i didn't try to remove lines from tank side yet. i used air from my lungs not a compressor too....
is replacing the lines the answer or am i missing something simple?
thanks.

Sounds like you might have a vent solenoid issue that is not providing a vent to the tank when you're attempting to fill it up. You could also try removing your carbon canister and making sure it's not saturated. The carbon canister can saturate if someone overfilled the tank recently, such as trying to squeeze several more ounces in after the pump clicks off.

Now those sound promising- where would the silenoid be located? The canister is right next to or on the tank right? Hope to investigate this weekend If possible. Thanks!

as you fill the tank, the air inside has to get out. That is the 1/2 inch rubber hose / tube next to the fill line. The air comes out of the tank, and up toward the nozzle, back into the fill tube. You need to clean out that small hose / tube.

Sorry that might help
02 limited with v8 @ 113k miles.

Yes I triedto clean out the lines working from the top to the tank. I snaked the small line but it stopped right at the tank and wouldn't get thru. I stopped and put it all together because I didn't have the time to remove the tank and try- it also had a full tank so I thought to research awhile before I went farther......

I say pull the filler tube. If it is anything like our 98 mountaineer the metal tube, hose that does in the tank and the return air is all one piece.

Should only take a few minutes to pull the whole thing.

It sounds like the return is plugged.

If you need to buy one they are pricey

That is what I think anyway...hardest part is to feed the tube from over the frame. Takes a bit of turning the tube if I recall correctly.

You can't pull it from the tank side of the frame.
