I've found an issue that seems to come up most after offroading. I'll go to the gas station, start pumping, and the pump will shut off. Sometimes it'll fill all the way up, sometimes i have to go in 2 or 3 gallon spurts, but this last time was the worst. My rear tank was completely empty and it'd only take two gallons and not a drop more. Anyone else have this issue or know what might be causing it?
It seems to be happening more often with the rear tank since i put it back in. The only thing i can think of that's different is that there was this black plastic tube that was in the filler neck that i didn't reinstall. This have anything to do with it?
Yes, it's the black plastic tube. That tube allows the tank to vent when you're filling up. Without that in place the tank builds pressure as the flow of gas goes down the filler neck and it splashes gas back at the nozzle when the air finally passes back up the tube. The splash is causing the nozzle to click off, thinking the tank is full. Same as when you try to pour pop out of a two little bottle really fast, as the air sucks in and it chugs it splashed inside. Replace that tube and you should be good to go.
The only other thing I can possibly think of that would cause this is if the filler neck was at a different angle causing a splash of gas but I'm certain it's your vent tube.
Not sure about that. Double check that the vent tube is all clear and not collapsed or anything. Do you always fill up at the same place or does it do this wherever you go?
Driving off highway can stress your filler hoses/vents with all of the twisting the vehicle will do. The back tank certainly sounds like a case of the missing vent hose and the front tank could be that vent hose possibly getting bent and kinked enough to prevent sufficient venting...
on a serious note...don't cram the gas nozzle all the way in the filler tube! in fact when i fill up i don't even put it in, i watch the gas flowfrom the nozzle down into the tube....never had a problem. but when i put the nozzle all the way in it will cut off pre-maturely a lot of the time!

It happens at whatever station happens to be closest to where i just wheeled. It's happened 8 or 10 times, each time at a different place or a diffent pump at the same place.
As for the vent tube for the rear tank, i just shoved it back through the filler hole as deep as i could and it pumps fine now so long as i don't compress the bellows any more than i have to to get it to work.
On the note of the fuel cell- I have been considering it for quite some time already, but i was going to keep the rear tank and just run a 20 gallon cell or two 10 gallon cells in the bed to get rid of the saddle tank since it hangs about 4" below the frame. Seeing as how i'm having more issues with the rear tank now it really makes me mad I'll see if it keeps filling up correctly, that'll decide if it's time for a transfer tank or not right now i'm also making sure my welds are holding, the tank rusted through in two spots so i patched them up and threw about 3 gallons in the tank just to check.
