49 F1, need to move my doors toward the A pillar the up and down are close so that is ok, are you shimming the hinges, bending them(use heat?) or bfh on the jam? would like to not have to weld and cut on them but I need to move a good 1/8" forward
how nice were the margins from the factory I cant see how they where as good as my 64
need to add another question did you mount the cab on frame before or just eye balled it
I'm not sure how you could shim the hinges to bring the door closer to them. I used washers on the hinges of my 55, but I needed to push it away from the A pillar.
Hey, on mine there is adjustment where the hinges attach to the door to allow for that type of movement. But your hinges may be completely different than mine.
If the rear of the door clearance is ok I would add metal to the front edge of the door to close up the front gap. 1/8" round rod works well as a filler, weld it on and grind to the gap you want.
Many times the doors didn't fit all that well from the factory. I used a cab from a F-7 fire truck with 3000 miles on my F-2. The cab was perfect, no rust or repairs. The doors fit pretty bad, the top rear had a tight gap while the front top had a wide gap, on both doors, and I had to use a port-a-power jack to jack the door frames square so the doors had a equal gap around the door.
My son found an old repair in the rear corner on the driver's side on his F-1 cab. We had to slit the very bottom 3-4 inches and hammer the door opening edge back about 3/16". Above that I added about 3/16" of lead to bring the edge out for about a foot.
Here are the pages from the shop manual that shows the procedure for adjusting the doors.
Thanks guys, but cutting and welding are my last choice I will try a shim at the inside of the hing to see if it will move the pin hole to the front of the truck
The rest of the fit is good, will I hope I need to bolt the cab to be sure
I don't think there's any way to shim the hinges on a Bonus Built. The only thing you can do is tweak the hinges according to instructions in the manual. There isn't any way to move the hinges back or forward.
