Tires,shocks Need info.

Tires what to run and why. First we pull a lot, for the most part it's every weekend during the summer. Lets not forget the hunt and many trips snow skiing. Our X has a 4" lift, airbags and very poor Pro-comp Shocks. For the last four years the X has been running on 265/75/16 Toyo MT and let me tell you they went to crap very fast. Due to the weight of our trailer ( 6K empty) I'm not looking at putting giant tires on it, we have had the weight of the trailer over 10k before. The X is a V-10 with just under 207K and is running strong with 430 gears. Some upgrades to the transmission ( larger cooler and converter). The power plant is stock, K&N moves the air and the banks exhaust lets her breath. So back to the question tire's I'm looking a 285/75/16 Cooper ATP. Whats your thought on that tire and what does everyone else run. Also Shocks what to run and why. Thanks for your help guy.

I have an 2004 F250, which I think is pretty close to the excursions. Anyways I think the best value for shocks are the yellow Monroe Gas Magnums. Only around $30 from rockauto. Very HD.

Sounds like you are running stock wheels ?? On the X I'm working on currently I stayed with the 265 I did not want to suck in a tire anymore than that on a 7" wheel with the weight I tow (12K) . I KNOW OTHERS DO IT: I just did not feel it was safe. The 285 states 71/2" as a min. wheel.
As far as brands I personally am running Mickey Thompson (cooper made) Baja STZ Tires, LOAD E is a must !! I really like them so far BUT have only had them for 2000 miles so I can't speak to wear ( the reviews say LONG Time). I run the Skyjacker M95 Performance Monotube Shocks on 2 different Xs. I'd buy them again (lifetime warranty) for another truck if needed

If I were to go back to regular type tires, I could go straight back to Yokohama Geolandar AT-S. I do not think I have ever had a better all-around tire. I ran them on my Excursion before I went to 35's, ran them on my '99 Outback, and the wife wants to put them on our new Forester.

I do not think there would be anything wrong with the Cooper tires you are looking at, as long as they were load range E.

For shocks, I really like my Bilsteins.

I have Uniroyal Laredo on mine in 285-75-16. I have gone through 2 sets of them on our old explorer and gotten 60k miles out of them before they got to the wear bars. So far I have 30k on this set and they have been smooth and quiet and will probably dry rot long before they wear out. I hope they are still available when I buy again.

I've been running a newish tire, Fierce Attitude MT's by Dunlop. Initially I was torn between them and Duratacs, decided to give them a go. It's been over a year and 20,000 miles and they're still going strong. Little noisy but they're a mud tread. Snow didn't phase them, they work quite well in the rain, and take surprisingly little weight to balance. One of the few E range tires for a 16" rim that was well under $300/ea for a go-everywhere tire, which is what I was looking for.

Had great luck with Cooper's in the past, but no first hand experience on the X with them.

We have coopers on pretty much all of our trucks right now. They are decent but seem to be wearing pretty quick.

I would suggest NOT to get any sort of goodyears tires. Pretty much every single goodyear we had on any of our trucks blew out! Over 10 tires in total! Even the replacement tires we were given that were supposed to be "corrected".

BFG

Alright after days researching tires, and reading all the info from others. I went with the BFG AT in a 285/75/16. I'm guessing only time will tell if I picked wisely. Thank you ask for your info. Shock are still in the air.

Many like BFG's. They do wear a bit fast but do everything else decent from what I have read.

Ranchos and Destination A/T 285.

Really happy with the ride on longer trips and never a problem in deep snow.

Shocks, bilsteins hands down. 5100's were only shock that cured handling quirks on my 2500 Cummins, running bilstein heavy duty on the EX now and will be going to 5100's soon. The heavy dutys (blue and yellow) are only bilstein shocks available for stock height EX but work very well
