shocks and tires recommendations

Hey everyone....my 2000 7.3X Limited is due for tires this month and the shocks are still stock too so I'm looking at changing them. A good friend in MD who is a body repair guy (knows vehicles inside and out) is a fan of replacing with stock/OEM parts believing that that is what the vehicle was designed around. I'm not necessarily in agreement with this but I will admit I respect his opinion greatly.

Having said that, I've been considering the Rancho 9000X's though I am interested in anything.

Same with tires....right now, it has 285/75R16's on it. 265's are the recommended stock tire. I like how they fill up the wheel wells on the X but cannot turn the wheel all the way to one side or the other and and would like to kick up the fuel mileage if possible. I have been looking to see if there are any 275's that might split the difference. I tend to be sensible in cost but quality is much more important than cheap.

I use my X mainly for hauling music equipment (I'm a full-time musician)....mostly it's just filling up the back of the X with drums but at some point I am looking into pulling an enclosed utility trailer AND i currently pull an 18ft landscape trailer full of atv's when we head to the mountains.

I just recently replaced all the brakes and rotors with the ART package and am quite pleased. I would greatly appreciate suggestions on shocks and tires (and pics are even better...gotta keep it looking great!)

Thanks for the help!

Hello Kevin,

A musician....my boss is a drummer too when he's not writing code. Anyways, welcome to the forum.

As far as shocks, most people here go with Bilstein or Rancho shocks. As far as tires, well I think it's a personal preference. I still have stock BFGoodrich on mine and love them. I would love Michellins on my truck when the time comes. They're on the expensive side - but what isn't on this truck anyway. I have Bilstein and Michellin on my Land Cruiser, Expedition and Explorer.

Like I said, it's a personal choice with the tires and I love the combination of Bilstein and Michellin on my trucks.

Just my .02 cents.

Kind regards,

Dan

I always recommend a billstein shock for someone looking for a quality shock that will ride similarly to the stock parts. As far as tires ive tried pretty much everything on the market with all the trucks ive owned over the last 4-5 years and i think these surpass everything else ive driven on by a good margin. http://www.tirerack.com/survey/Surve...irePageLocQty=

Bilstein shock and Michelin Tires LTX M/S 265/75/16 Load range E are always the best combos for these vechicles. If you're looking for a 285 in a load range E, then you'd look at the BF Goodrich All-terrain T/As. But Bilstein shocks are well, WELL, worth the money you spend on them everytime.
