Lowering 53 shocks??

I just ordered Mid Fifty Short and Smooth Mean All Kit 4-5" drop for my 53. Do I need to change the shocks also? My shocks aren't that old but was curious if they would even work since I'm lowering it? If I do, can any one make some suggestIons on a good, fair priced shocks.

Mid-Fifty sells the proper lowered shocks.

1953-56 Ford F-100 Shock, Eye-eye, Black/red, 9" - 13.5"

They should be able to tell you which ones you will need

I called and talked to a lady that wasn't much help. She said I had to send them a message of the measurements needed once the kit is on. I was just hoping that they would know what shocks go with this kit?? I'd like to get these on while the truck is in the shop getting this kit put on. Can anyone help me out??

Just an example.

When you get your measurements you can look up this Monroe catalog and try to find some at your local parts store.

They only handle it this way because there's variances in where you ultimately end up once lowered. The right shock for the application is justified when you have things set about where you want them. It may be frustrating but they were saving you from purchasing, returning, and reshipping proper items.

Post some pics when it's done - I like em low.

Shock discussions are always a red flag for me, the quality and match of the shocks to the suspension is much more critical and important than most think. If all you want is something that will keep it from bouncing down the street like a rubber ball for 5 -10K miles on weekend drives to the mall or your local lawn show, then go ahead and buy cheap junk Gabriels or Monroes from you local Walmart. Those companies spend more money on advertising, decals and the boxes than on the product inside. They are all one internals size (actually) "fits nothing" slapped together on a fast moving assembly line. Their QC is more concerned with the paint job coverage than if they actually work. If you are building a driver that you will use often, on longer runs on the highway and expressway, then do yourself a big favor and buy a set of quality shocks where the internal valving is matched to the application such as Koni, Bilstein, QA1 and a few others. Yes they cost more, but you get what you pay for. Their tech line people will help you get the shocks that are just right for you, or will build you a set, and they will last a lifetime. You can definitely feel the difference the first time you go around a corner.

And I was just considering Gabriels. Guess I better at least look at Koni, Bilstein, and QA1. Thanks for the heads up AX.
