FEDUPS has a huge backlog due to weather. Our business has suffered huge delays due to shipping backlogs. Things that should take a day or two are at 3-5. I think they're working on priority shipments more than regular ground stuff.
Well everything got here yesterday morning by 10:30. Almost all finished. # 3 injector was fried. Looks like the seal went bad and leaked fuel into the cylinder. That injector was different than the rest must have been replaced before not a ford injector. We pulled all 8. Bunch of crap that looked like hair around #7 and #8 injector. Mechanic thinks its some kind of rubber like o ring material. Guess it was a good thing we pulled them all and cleaned everything out. Got most of the regulated fuel return system done and will finish up on Monday. I will try and post picks of the injectors and the crap we tool out of the fuel system. He thinks when I had the filters changed a few weeks ago something got past the filter. anyway hope it gets fired up and runs well on Monday. Miss the beast! Driving my buddies rave 4 around and the thing is beating me up!
The o-ring on the outside of the injector or an internal seal? If outside I'm trying to understand how it got past the copper washer, unless that showed some degradation. Although as I type this I guess a loose injector bouncing up and down could wipe out the external o-ring and the copper washer as well. Was there any sign it was loose?

Hope it all works out.
it was the lower rubber seal on the outside of the injector.
It sounds like #3 was loose and the copper seal on the bottom of the injector body that seals out combustion was leaking. When this happens the hot gases get up to that bottom oring and destroys it over time.
#3 is text book copper washer failure, many times from improper torque on the injector hold down bolt.
The shreds are probably #3's lower oring. That's why the shreds are on the same bank.
An improper torqued injector will hydrolock the engine. If the lower oring isn't sealing,,, then the crush washer won't seal,, and the fuel pump will FILL that cylinder at 60 psi.
Well it has been close to 50,000 miles since we did the heads. That was the last time the injectors were out of it. Running very well now with the new injectors and the regulated return system from driven diesel. The one thing is the the injector that failed was not the original. Mt mechanic said it was different and looked like it might have been replaced before I had the truck.
No he did not complain too much about it. He did mention it but didnt make a big deal about it. He was mostly concerned about the contaminants that got past the filter. His biggest complaint was getting the inner fendes back in I guess they gave him a hard time.
