So I have an explorer I want to lift. I start looking online for lift kits and I can't find anything. But I had an idea... maybe I could use a coil spring lift and rear blocks for a ranger. I only want to get 2"-3" of lift and those kits are readily available for the ranger. Will this work? That leads to my next question... for the front suspension, can I use just coil springs to achieve lift in the front then crank the t bars to match the rear? I found blocks that are 3.5" for the rear and coil springs for the front that are 1.5"-2" for the front?
Any additional information/advice would be helpful
Thanks!
Why you can't get lifts for 1995 Explorers - The Ranger Station Forums
You can't use lift blocks on an Explorer. The springs go underneath the axle. Adding blocks will LOWER the truck, not lift it. You would have to do a spring-over-axle conversion first (which will give you about 5-6" lift all by itself, without blocks) in order to use lift blocks.
How are you planning on adding coil springs to a torsion bar front suspension? What will you mount them to? And if you're adding coil springs, why would you need to crank the torsion bars? What are these coil springs you found for the front? They're obviously not made to lift a 95 Explorer, so what ARE they meant for?
Well forget the blocks and coil springs. I didnt even realize the rear was under axle and there weren't front springs. Is the rear conversion simple? If so how could I match the front?
Spring over axle conversion invloves removing the rear axle, cutting off the stock spring mounts on the axle, and welding new perches on the top. You need to measure and make sure the spacing is good and measure for the pinion angle. You'll also need to weld on new shock tabs.
To match the front, find a front axle out of a Jeep, rip out your whole front suspension, and do a solid axle swap. This will, needless to say, involve lots of welding and custom fabrication. But it's the only way to get that sort of lift on this generation Explorer.
Crank the torsion bars up front and see what how high you can get it. That's about all you can do for the front. The rear can be lifted a few inches with some new shackles.
So I'm going to crank the t bars in the front. As for the rear.. I want to do an add a leaf as well as shackles.. will that work with the mono leaf in the back?
