With the longer travel, you can't replace them one at a time. They both have to come off before you can put one back on due to the length.

Best $35 I have spent on the rig so far. simple pleasures mean not bumping your head on the hatch.
That's where I can into trouble. I disconnected one side only for some extra safety factor, then I realized the error of my ways.

During the removal of the second lift support is when I dislodged what I was using to support the back hatch.

Ouch! I bet that made quite a crash. Hopefully it didn't break the back glass. Around here that is a $400 mistake from a junkyard if you can find one.

I can recommend the longer ones from ebay that are provided by lift support depot. I am 6 foot and have plenty of room under the hatch.

Hood and hatch struts have certain tensions that are set internally to provide the proper tension to lift the weight in the environment that they are made for.

If the tension is wrong on the strut, they won't hold the hatch or hood up properly. We carry hood and hatch struts on our website for your 2000 Ford Excursion.

Here's a link to them if you would like to see what we have to offer. 2000 Ford Excursion Rear Hatch & Hood Struts | 2000 Ford Excursion Rear Hatch & Hood Lift Supports | 2000 Ford Excursion Replacement Hatch & Hood Lift Support Struts At 1A Auto
